The Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) plays a pivotal role in the development, maintenance, and operation of inland river ports and terminal facilities across the country. With a mandate to enhance accessibility and convenience for the populace, BIWTA continuously undertakes initiatives to modernize and expand its infrastructure. In line with the strategic vision of the Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority (BEZA), a comprehensive project titled "Establishment of Jetties and Infrastructure at Mirsarai & Sandwip in Chittagong, Subrang-Jaliar Dwip at Teknaf, and Sonadia Dwip at Cox's Bazar" has been formulated.

This project is designed to address the growing demand for improved transportation and tourism infrastructure in key coastal areas of Bangladesh. The primary objective is to construct five jetties along with essential allied infrastructure to facilitate both passenger and cargo transportation efficiently. These jetties are strategically planned at pivotal locations across Mirsarai, Sandwip, Subrang, Jaliar Dwip, and Sonadia, each chosen for their significance in enhancing connectivity and fostering economic development in the region.
